FAQ's
Can I have two or more vans on the same policy?
Yes, we have various policies that allow you to insure more than one van. The advantage of this is that you have one renewal date.
Can I insure a car and van on the same policy?
Generally not, although we can arrange a fleet policy which can cover a range of vehicle types as well as cars and vans, such as motorbikes, motor homes, mini-diggers, fork lift trucks, tractors, imported cars, cherry pickers and larger commercial vehicles.
Do I need to tell you that I have alloy wheels on my van?
It depends on whether or not they have been fitted as standard by the manufacturer. If you have made any modifications to the van, they should be notified to us, to ensure we provide you with a suitable policy. Failure to notify us could jeopardise any future claim.
I am thinking of getting a vehicle that is 4.5 tonne GVW (gross vehicle weight), how do I go about getting insured?
We have many different van and commerical vehicle policies available with specialist schemes to suit all situations. If you are driving a vehicle over 3.5 tonne GVW for business use then you will most probably need an operator’s licence. To view VOSA’s Goods Vehicle Operator Licensing Guide click here.
I have a double cab with 5 seats; can I insure it on a commercial vehicle policy?
Yes, not only can we insure a double cab on a commercial vehicle policy, but also vans and pickups with multiple seats. There has been a large increase in the number of vans having extra seats added over the last few years and we have the experience to find you the right policy for your needs at competitive prices.
Do you cover refrigerated vehicles and if so would my stock be covered if the freezer broke down?
Yes we do. In most cases the refrigerated unit will also be covered provided it is permanently attached to the vehicle. However, a commercial vehicle policy does not include cover for stock and you would therefore need either a separate goods in transit policy or to include stock cover within a commercial/business policy.
I have an any driver over 25 van policy; if a driver has a criminal conviction do I need to tell you about it?
Yes, it is important that you advise us of any criminal convictions, motoring offences, claims or previous accidents that any driver who may drive the vehicle has. Any failure to disclose facts material to the insurance, and any inaccuracies in your answers, could invalidate the cover and could mean that all or part of a claim may not be paid. If you are in any doubt, please contact us for advice.
Can you cover drivers with a provisional licence on a commercial van policy?
Yes, we have a number of schemes available which cater for drivers holding a provisional licence, and for inexperienced drivers.
I have just moved to the UK and have a foreign no claims bonus (NCB); can you insure me and can I use my NCB in the UK?
Whilst we are able to insure drivers who have just moved to the UK, and have policies available which accept foreign NCB, it does depend on where they are from and the language they are in. If the NCB is not in English, it may also be possible to have them translated for you.
Will my commercial vehicle policy cover my tools if they are stolen from my van?
Probably not – most commercial van policies do not provide cover for the theft of tools from your van. However, we can arrange a separate tools cover policy for you.
I deliver goods to my customers in my van; do I need hire & reward, courier or haulage use?
If, for example, you make your goods on your own premises and just deliver them to your customers, this is classed as ‘own goods’ and cover for carriage of own goods would suffice. This is usually included as standard on a commercial vehicle policy. If the goods are not your own and you are getting paid for transporting them from one place to another, then you will need either courier or haulage use, depending on the number of deliveries you make per day. If you are unsure, please contact us for advice.
