I am thinking of buying a van that has had extra seats added. How will this affect my insurance?
When
a vehicle is fitted with additional seats, there are a couple of issues. Firstly, as the vehicle can now carry more passengers, there is the potential for more people to be hurt should an accident occur, and therefore, the insurable risk is greater, meaning your insurance may be
more expensive. Secondly, as the safety of passengers in any vehicle is paramount,
any additional seats, seat belts, fittings, etc, MUST be fitted by someone who is factory approved and qualified, i.e. a main dealer, and then certified by an MoT inspector, to
ensure there is no risk of your insurance cover being deemed to be invalid. Different insurers do have their own individual requirements and therefore you should always seek advice before adding extra seats. Frequently, insurance companies require evidence that their
requirements have been fulfilled, such as a main dealer invoice, before they will initiate
cover.

I want to fix ladders onto my Transit van, is that ok?
Whilst that should be acceptable, as it is a modification it would have to be referred to your insurer for approval.
Can you cover drivers with a provisional licence on a commercial van policy?
Yes, we have a number of schemes available which cater for drivers holding a provisional licence, and for inexperienced drivers.
