FAQ's
My car policy is fully comprehensive; does this mean my 19 year old son can drive it?
No – only the drivers named on the certificate of insurance are insured to drive your car.
I have an any driver policy and my certificate says any driver; can my daughter drive?
That depends on her age. Although the certificate states any driver, you should check the wording of your Schedule as most policies will have restrictions for young drivers. You should also ensure that any driver(s) with convictions, accidents or claims who has the use of your vehicle is named on the policy.
I am covered comprehensive on my private car. Doesn’t this mean I can drive any car?
Not necessarily – regardless of whether you have comprehensive or third party cover, you should check on your certificate as to whether or not you have the driving other cars extension. If you have, please note that the cover whilst driving another car will be third party only.
Can I cover more than two cars on one policy?
Yes, we can offer a family fleet policy or a multi-car policy where you can insure several vehicles on one policy.
Can I tow a trailer and will it be covered?
Your policy will generally cover you to tow a trailer, although the trailer itself will not be covered, i.e. if the trailer hits another car and causes damage to it, the insurer will pay for the damage to the other car, but it will not pay for the damage to the trailer itself and you therefore need a separate policy to provide cover for the trailer.
I use my car to go to various places of work, do I need business use?
Yes, you will generally need class 1 business use, which means you can use your vehicle in connection with your business or profession. However, if you have named drivers on your policy who need to use your vehicle in connection with your business, then you will need class 2 business use. If you do commercial travelling or selling ‘door to door’, you will need class 3 business use.
I am insured third party fire and theft and have a cracked windscreen – can I claim?
Most fire and theft policies do not provide any glass cover unless the glass was broken due to theft or attempted theft. In many cases comprehensive insurance cover (which normally includes glass cover) is a similar price and it may therefore be worth considering upgrading your cover.
Do you need to know what colour my car is?
No, colour doesn’t make any difference to the premium.
