I am a courier; if I drop a parcel on someone’s foot and injure them, will I be covered on my courier policy?

No – you will also need a personal liability policy to provide cover for any injury caused in this way. However, your vehicle insurance will cover liability for any damage or injury caused by your vehicle, i.e. you open your door into a pedestrian and cause injury to them.

As I drop off parcels, do I need to take the keys out of my van or can I leave it running?

Almost all motor policies include a clause that excludes cover for theft if the ignition keys were left ‘in or on the vehicle’, although the precise wording and scope of the clause can vary.

Will my parcels or goods be covered against theft from my van?

No, you will need a separate goods in transit policy to cover theft, whether from your van or whilst in your care.

I want to do deliveries in my car, is this possible?

Yes it is, although you will need a specialist policy which provides cover for courier use. In addition to cars, we offer courier use for vans, motorcycles and larger vehicles.

What is the difference between Haulage and Courier and which one do I need?

In general, if you do multi-drop deliveries then you will need courier use and if you do only one or two drops per day then haulage use is most likely to be appropriate. Please contact us to discuss the activities you undertake and we can advise you accordingly.

Can I have any driver for Haulage or Courier?

Yes, we can cover Haulage and Courier use for any driver any age, or for any driver over 25. However, this will generally be more expensive than naming the drivers.

Can I have young or inexperienced drivers driving?

Yes, we can certainly cover young and/or inexperienced drivers, although the premium will most probably increase significantly.
