FAQ's

Does my policy include social, domestic and pleasure?

Yes. Business car insurance policies do include cover for social, domestic and pleasure.

Why do I need Business Use car insurance?

Most normal car insurance policies will cover you for social, domestic, pleasure use and to and from your usual place of work. If you have more than one place of work, you travel to see clients, or use your car for your job, then a normal policy will not cover you, and you need business car insurance.

What is class 3 business use?

There are 3 distinct classes of business use car insurance, which are:

  • Business use Class 1 car insurance includes social, domestic and pleasure but covers the insured in connection with their business or profession.
  • Business use Class 2 car insurance covers named drivers for business use in connection with the policyholder's business.
  • Business use Class 3 car insurance covers commercial selling, such as selling services on a "door to door" basis.

I've had an accident, what do I do?

Call our dedicated Claimsline Service on 0845 601 3319. They will advise you and help you through the claims process from start to finish. They will also help you with any uninsured losses you may suffer.

Do you offer Hire & Reward business use?

Yes we do. Coversure offers business use policies for chauffeurs, taxi's, limousines and contract hire, on an individual car or fleet basis.

Can I add my spouse to my policy?

Yes, cover is also available at very reasonable rates.

I have only ever had a private car. Will I have to start my new Business Car Insurance policy with zero no claims discount?

No, we have various options which can allow you to transfer your private no claims discount, or in some circumstances we can mirror your private no claims bonus, so you won't lose out, and it won't affect your existing insurance policy either.

If I have to make a claim and my car is off road, can I have a courtesy car?

Yes, several business car insurance policies include this as standard. However, if your car is written off due to an accident, fire or theft, you will not be entitled to a hire / courtesy car. If the accident was not your fault you may be entitled to a hire / courtesy vehicle via our Claimsline. You can add a guaranteed hire car for a small cost - click here for more details.

I have a DD conviction for drink driving on my licence, can you still insure me?

A "DD" conviction code is a dangerous driving conviction. However, many people interpret it to be a drink driving conviction, although the code for this is "DR". We can insure drivers with either type of conviction, provided you are still entitled to drive, (i.e. you hold a valid licence). The convictions we can arrange cover for are set out below. Naturally your premium will be significantly higher than normal, but that's where using Coversure could pay dividends. As a broker we have access to many specialist schemes and working relationships with insurance underwriters, that enable us to find you competitive quotes.

  Licence Code Driving Offence
  DD40 Dangerous Driving
DD60 Manslaughter or culpable homicide while driving a vehicle
DD80 Causing death through dangerous driving
  DD90 Driving furiously
DR10 Driving/attempting to drive with alcohol level above limit
DR20 Driving/attempting to drive while unfit through drink
DR30 Driving/attempting to drive then failing to supply a specimen for analysis
DR40 In charge of a vehicle while alcohol level above limit
DR50 In charge of a vehicle while unfit through drink
DR60 Failing to provide specimen for analysis in circumstances other than driving/attempting to drive
DR70 Failing to provide specimen for breath test
DR80 Driving/attempting to drive when unfit through drugs
DR90 In charge of a vehicle when unfit through drugs

Which cover options are available?

You can choose to have named drivers only, or limit cover to any driver over 21, any driver over 25, or have any driver any age if you wish.

I have a car that is leased, so it is not owned by me or my company, can you still cover me?

Yes. We have insurers who will provide business use car insurance on leased vehicles too.

Is it possible to get cover for drivers with EU and international licences?

Yes – we have policies available to cover drivers with a non-UK licence.

Can I tow a caravan or trailer?

Yes, a business car policy provides liability cover whilst you are towing. You would however need a separate policy to insure your caravan or trailer against accidental damage, theft, etc.

Can I drive a business car in the Republic of Ireland?

Yes, we can provide you with a policy that covers European use.

Will my laptop be covered if it is stolen from my business car?

No - you will need a separate policy to cover personal effects such as a computer or laptop. We can cover such items as an extension to a home contents policy. Your business car insurance policy will generally provide you with a small amount of cover for personal effects in the region of £50 or £100.

Can I drive any other vehicle as I have fully comprehensive cover on my business car insurance policy?

Whether you are insured on a fully comprehensive, third party fire and theft or even third party only basis should not make any difference to the driving other cars extension being included. It depends on if you insure the car in a company name or not. You are more likely to have the driving other cars extension if you insure your car in your own name with business use included. If the insurance is in the name of a company, driving other vehicles is usually excluded. If you do have the driving other cars extension it is important to remember that cover will be restricted to third party only. You should check your certificate of insurance or give us a call for further advice.

Can I have more than one business car on the same policy?

Yes, it is possible to add cars to your policy which gives you the benefit of having one common renewal date. However, if you already have three or more vehicles, a fleet policy may be beneficial for you. Please contact us for advice.
